Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Incident as Authorities Press On With Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who were killed in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the only individual of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow publicly, saying in part: “There are no words. Remembering her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated late Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a raid at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate new worry for our community”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a room in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a authority reported to the media outlet.

Police that raided the inn found two handguns and magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Cook was remembered at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only in her youth... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his bright future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in 2025, according to statistics.
