This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
