The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
