The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

The British designer Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
