One extended cruise around Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The vessel departed without her and returned several hours later after the personnel realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the liner.

The official said that they would visit the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The ship initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the moment of the senior passenger's demise. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.
