John Stones Pushed into midfield on the ball, as he has done in the past. Sometimes seemed hesitant on the ball with the approach was shelved at half-time. 6/10

Dan Burn A nuisance from dead balls, typically, but may be another option to his teammate in the backline instead of alongside him. A loose distribution later in the match almost led to a goal from the visitors. 6/10

Nico O’Reilly One more composed display by the youngster after his debut against another side. A teammate was unable to take full advantage of a clever backheel behind the opposing backline. The role looks secure so soon. 7

The newcomer His first start for his country. Slightly sloppy on the ball but his whipped corners posed a danger. A handy game manager for the coach to have against teams who drop deep. Cautioned for a rash foul. 6/10

The midfielder Deliveries on corner kicks and set-plays created chances. Was given room to move in left midfield yet found himself in an offside position when the ball arrived with a chance to score. Granted a well-earned break on the hour mark. Six

The star midfielder Played in an advanced position out wide and put in the hard yards. Displayed moments of class but scuffed an effort high. Substituted in the closing stages by Rogers, his rival, following a yellow card. Seven

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s best chance in the opening period, his strike well saved from the opposing goalkeeper. As a teammate hanging back, it fell to him to stretch the play out wide yet his deliveries from the touchline varied in quality. Substituted for the final quarter-hour. 6

Harry Kane The difference-maker with his 77th and 78th goals at international level. The opener a trademark opportunist's goal and his next a superb headed goal after peeling away off his defender. At 32, he continues to improve and England have every chance in the upcoming tournament with him leading the line. 8

Eberechi Eze Had difficulty to get into the game from the left. Was presented with a good opening following a pass by Bellingham yet Strakosha kept it out. His replacement made much more of influence in his place. Five

• Saka (on for Eze at the 63-minute mark) Missed opportunities although his set-piece led to the first goal, Six
