An defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible security risks associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been advised to avoid talking about classified matters in any vehicles.
Safety Guidance for Defence Personnel
In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss secret information while travelling in Chinese cars.
He said that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but noted that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.
We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.
After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.
Additionally, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.
