Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "during the day".

The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he returned the next day and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, at the end of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test having missed the Adelaide game.
