Fans Call for Custody of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a individual who leaped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was due to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 award recognitions, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
